Song Circle

A song circle is a fun activity to do with friends and family. Here is how it works:

  1. Sit in a circle with your friends and/or family.
  2. Each person in the circle has a turn to be the song leader.
  3. The first song leader begins by singing a song he or she likes. It is more fun to select a song that is easy to sing and to remember because it allows the other members of the group to join in the fun by singing along.
  4. After the first song is finished, the next person becomes the song leader and sings his or her favorite song inviting everyone to sing along.
  5. Continue in this manner until everyone in the circle has shared a song.
  6. Repeat as often as possible!

Funky Nursery Rhymes

Here is a funky way to sing nursery rhymes that CMNers shared in a song circle at the 2004 CMN Conference!

Humpty dump, hum hum-pty dump
Humpty dump, hum hum-pty dump

Humpty dumpty sat on a wall
Humpty dumpty had a great FALL!
All the King's horses, all the King's men
Umph! Ain't that funky now?

Humpty dump, hum hum-pty dump
Humpty dump, hum hum-pty dump

Sing this version and then add other nursery rhymes to fit the pattern like:

Humpty dump, hum hum-pty dump
Humpty dump, hum hum-pty dump

Jack and Jill went up a hill
To fetch a pail of WATER!
Jack fell down and broke his crown
Umph! Ain't that funky now?

Humpty dump, hum hum-pty dump
Humpty dump, hum hum-pty dump

Now, you try it! It's funky!
